Introducing the new Irus Alerting System: Smarter, Clearer, and Intuitive.

Harnessing Data and embracing Automation to Achieve Net Zero

We are pleased to announce a significant upgrade to how Irus communicates alerts, alarms, and notifications to users of the Irus Portal.

The new Irus Alerting system has been designed to be more intuitive, consistent, and user-focused, helping clients stay informed and proactive about their building performance and safety.

Standardised Alerts for a clearer experience
With this development of the alerting procedure, all notifications from Irus will now be referred to as “Irus Alerts”.

This simple change reflects a larger goal: to consolidate and standardise the way we communicate issues, making it easier for users to understand and act on the information provided.

How the new system works
The new Irus Alerting system is built on three key principles: consistency, clarity, and accessibility. Here’s how it works in practice:

Monthly condition report

Previously known as the Service Contract Report, the Monthly Condition Report now focuses exclusively on Prefect equipment issues. Each month, it is sent to the designated site contact (for example, the facility manager) and includes:

  • Sensor faults
  • Valve test results
  • Network failures
  • Offline nodes
  • Stuck outputs

Users can also download reports directly from the portal, with up to 12 months of historical data always accessible. This makes tracking trends over time easier than ever.

Daily Alert Report email

(non-urgent)

Urgent Alert

(SMS/email)

All alerts will now be known as Irus Alerts, but categorised as Non-Urgent and Urgent

Irus Alerts

– Categorised for action
Alerts are now categorised into Non-Urgent and Urgent groups:

  • Non-Urgent Alerts: These include issues such as supplementary heaters or tundish leaks. They are delivered in Daily Alert Reports via email to each user with access to the affected site. Users with access to multiple sites will receive a separate report for each property.
  • Urgent Alerts: Issues impacting health and safety, or potential building damage are flagged as urgent. These alerts are sent via email and SMS to all users with access to the property, ensuring no critical issue, such as scalding risk, leaks, power or infrastructure dropout goes unnoticed.

Optimiser logic for consistency
All alerts are now generated using Prefect’s Optimiser logic, ensuring consistency across sites. When improvements are made to alert logic, for instance, to better detect issues with supplementary heaters, these enhancements are applied system wide.

Comprehensive reporting and analysis
The system allows users to generate reports over custom periods, providing a clear view of historical alerts. This helps teams assess whether corrective actions on-site are improving conditions and overall building performance.

Daily Alert Report email

Users receive an email showing all the properties for which they are responsible.

Clicking on a specific property will take them to the Alert Reporting section of the portal where all the alerts that have occurred in the previous 24 hours will be displayed.

Daily Alert Report

Alerts by system

Different Irus modules generate specific alerts, for example:

  • Supplementary heater issues
  • High humidity
  • Noise levels
  • No-load situations.
  • High water consumption
  • Tundish leaks
  • Faulty elements/sensors.
  • Leaks
  • Valve tests
  • Valve overrides (remote/manual).
  • High water or electricity use
  • Meter faults
  • Consistent water flow.
  • Cooking left unattended
  • Low battery
  • Maintenance alerts
  • Tamper alerts.
  • Toilet leaks
  • Sentinel temperature issues
  • Constant water flow
  • High humidity
  • Low battery.

Why it’s better for users

The redesigned Irus Alerting system improves the user experience in several ways:

  • Clarity: Standardised alerts make it easier to understand issues at-a-glance.
  • Consistency: Optimiser-driven alerts ensure reliable detection across all sites.
  • Accessibility: Downloadable reports and historical data enable trend analysis and informed decision-making.
  • Proactivity: Escalation options and urgent alerts ensure critical problems are never overlooked.

With the new Irus Alerting system, Prefect empowers users to stay informed, act faster, and maintain safer, more efficient buildings.
